Thursday 25 July

The best view to wake up to.

We thought this was Mt Carbine, until we found out there was no Mt Carbine.

If you look closely you can see 2 permanent residents from the park... Tawny Frogmouths, who didn't seem concerned about all the attention & let us take their pic.

We said farewell to Anne & Graham who will continue their nomadic travels in the van.

Thanks for a great trip & being our travel buddies, had an awesome time.

Decided to head to Port Douglas. We loved it last time we went there, so thought camping would be great.

The cane slasher is in the background, but the birds just love the grubs they leave behind.

Had lunch in Port Douglas but the parks were full up with backpackers. We hadn't seen any in the Cape.

Sean did some fishing & we headed back to Cairns for the next 2 nights.

Wednesday 24 July Coen, Mt Carbine

Stopped in Coen for fuel. Not the most expensive. It was $2.27 in Bamaga.

Just outside Coen we had to declare & hand over any fresh fruit/veges & meat that wasn't sealed due to the quarantine rules.

We knew we were getting closer to civilisation when we started seeing roadworks again.

We went from this.....

To this... Yeah! Bitumen again, what a relief.

We decided that we wouldn't visit Lakefield NP on this trip & started heading towards Cairns.

Our countryside is truly amazing & it goes on forever.

Just beautiful

We arrived at Mt Carbine, which isn't a mountain. It used to be M.T. Carbine due to the mining taking place there & everyone just started calling it Mt Carbine.

It was definitely the nicest, friendliest & cleanest park we stayed in on this trip.

This is also where Anne & Graham stored their van while travelling with us.

Not the best sunset we saw but.....

The full moon just perfect & lit up everything.

Tuesday 23 July to Wednesday 23 July Archer River

We're back on the road again, heading for Archer River for the night.

Here comes a truck.....

Windows up.....

Here comes its dust.....

Can't see a thing....

There was a bit of this as we slowly head back to civilisation.

And there was a lot of this...... Red dirt & corrugation. Won't be missing either by the end of this trip.

Set up camp at Archer River Roadhouse.

Had a couple of extra guests for dinner.....

Who shared an apple.

Archer River

Our camp sites

Had to get another shot of the dirty Navara.

Tuesday 23 July The trip continues

The doctor has checked out Kristin & after this last dose of iv antibiotics & a quick stop at the chemist, we are back on the road.

Destination is Archer River Roadhouse, then Lakefield NP, Cooktown, Cairns & home.

Will blog when we have service again. Don't worry, all is great with the Cossies.

Thanks Weipa hospital, the staff are great.

Monday 22 July Weipa

Before We go any further, Weipa doesn't have Optus or Vodafone, just Telstra, so ipad is the only way to chat to anyone at the moment.

Woke up Monday morning & Kristin was worse so back to the hospital.

And they admitted me. They have pumped me with iv antibiotics every 5 to 8hrs.

Apparently the bug bite which could have been a hairy caterpillar or anything from the tropics was aggravated by me wearing my neck brace which was helping me cope with the 4wd bumps just made it worse & turned into a staf infection. Lucky Kristin.

She's been bitten by almost everything now, dog, bat & a tropical bug. No more thanks!

She made the most of it. First meal we didn't prepare in over a week & tv for the first time in 2 weeks.

Sean had a steak back at the camp & Anne & Graham are staying to see how we get on.

Sorry guys, we have missed our Chilli Beach trek.

Sunday 21 July Weipa

Got bitten by something along the way & by Sunday morning was swollen & in pain, so off to Weipa hospital.

After checking me out, gave me cream & tablets & snt me on my way.

Sean & I went for a drive along Mission Bridge...

Sean threw out the cast net for bait....

And did a bit of fishing. Nothing to report here.

Saw the most amazing yacht for hire, but forgot to take a pic from the ipad.

Check it out - when we win lotto it would be fabulous to hire:

www.twizzle.org. & dream.....

Lazy finish to the day.

Saturday 20 July Weipa

Heading to Weipa for 2 nights.

Finally some bitumen.

Navara will not be washed on this trip but maybe we should clean the windows.

Rio Tinto everywhere you look.

Not the best pic, but when we pulled into our camp site a blue kookaburra greeted us.

Once again, it paid to book early for our beach front camp site.

Looks like no one is here.

Wrong! Behind us the camping ground was booked out.

Finally on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula & we had a brilliant sunset.

This was thanks to the back burning they were doing.

Got a bit smoky.
